1. On receipt of the films, these are checked over on an editor, this is principally
to confirm the condition of the film prior to projection. Many of the films may
not have been viewed for a number of years and joints in the film sometimes
give out. Using an editor (right) is a great way of checking film condition without
putting undue strain on the film. Any defects are repaired with a splicer-
in the case of Standard 8 using cement and in the case of Super 8 with Würker
tape splices. The Würker splices are superb for sound films as these do not cover
the main or balance magnetic stripe along the film. |
2. The film is then copied into a computer and arranged with titles and divisions between
individual films. In the case of a DVD copy each film copied will have it’s
own chapter and will be easily accessed using the menu seen when the disc is
played. The VHS copies will be made on professional grade tape and will play
in the normal way. 3. The tapes or DVD will be given hard plastic cases with artwork including selected stills from the copied films and will be dispatched by registered post, together with the original films. Please note that the original films are, of course, also sent back to the customer. |

Copyright This is a heading to cover a number of areas of concern. 1. Copyrighted footage - from time to time I am asked by customers if I can copy a vhs version of a commercial film and I always refer the customer to my Useful Links page. In my experience it's almost always possible to get a bona fide DVD version of most Hollywood films and at a better price than I could offer to transfer the tape manually. 2. Music - music is also a minefield for a number of reasons, not least that music is such a personal thing. My normal transfer service does not have music. However if a customer has a piece of music they wish to include on the DVD, I am only too happy to include this if they send their CD of music when they send their films. Of course the music CD will be returned with order. 3. Footage - I appreciate that much of the footage I am asked to transfer is very personal and can confirm that copyright of the films remains at all times with the customer. No footage or still images from a customer's films will be used to illustrate my services. I do intend to produce samples of my transfers on the site, but this will be with footage I have originated myself. |
