December 2005
Well, I suppose the first thing is - Welcome to the new webpage design. I'm no expert at Web pages but managed to get this put up on the net using a nice little software package called Cool Page - there is a link to them elsewhere. The software is free in it's most basic form and reasonably cheap to upgrade to the full version. This Web page was created using the basic version.

Yet again it's been another busy year, especially towards the end. More and more people are seeing cine transfers as a nice personal present idea. So thanks again to all the nice people, who have sent me their moving memories over the last year. I can't think of many jobs with a greater level of job satisfaction and most of this is down to the customers!

In 2005, in terms of the moving image, things are moving on rapidly - High Definition (HD)  video seems to have finally landed in the domestic market. So now we'll be sending our guests to sleep with the same old home videos - but at least they'll be pin sharp!

2005 will also go down as the year that Kodak effectively abandoned the UK Super 8 market, by discontinuing Kodachrome 40 - see my FAQ page. If you still have film, now is the time to fire it off, as I understand it can still be processed until spring 2006. see FAQs for links to Widescreen Centre, here in the UK and a number of great sites in the US who are keeping the 'real' film flag flying.

2005 may also be known as the last year analog camcorders were readily available. Looking at buying guides highlights the almost total dominance of Digital, but what really brought it home was when I recently purchased a VHS-C cassette adaptor. I was told by the shop that I had just bought the last of a batch of 20 adaptors that the shop had ordered in six months previously when they had been warned that the manufacturer was winding up it's production of these units.

See my updated links page - there is a very useful link at the bottom to a site with codes to let a lot of DVD players play region 1 (US) discs
March 2006

My initial gloom regarding the future of super 8 film as a current medium has been lifted by the introduction of Kodak's Ektachrome 64T super 8 film - see faq for more details. Checking through the Netherlands processing house accessed via 7dayshop.com's website, confirms that not only is Fuji Single 8 still well catered for but there is more than a hint that Velvia will shortly be available in Single 8 format. I hope this encourages those of my customers who still shoot 'the reel stuff' and if I'm honest I'm looking at eBay to see if I can pick up one of those great Braun cameras that I never used to be able to afford!
May 2006
I have been inspired by some of my customers who are still shooting super 8, I realised I still had a Kodachrome 40 sitting in the fridge and rattled it through an Agfa Movexoom 10, I'll let you know the results, later. My film was returned from Kodak's Swiss lab, with the small leaflet below, as you can see, it not only recommends labs for the new Ektachrome emulsion, but it puts into perspective that Kodachrome processing will cease very soon. If you have any Kodachrome, get it processed as a matter of urgency, as the curtain could fall at any time on this service!

My price list has been adjusted to bring in line with the rates I use on my eBay item - don't worry it's not up! There is a slight saving on the basic cost and the other rates remain the same, but I've tried to simplify how the list looks and include prices for all possible permutations.
August 2006
I have now included a link to on the Cine to DVD/Video which will allow payment using Paypal.
Also the Name Shop has relocated to Kirkcaldy Indoor Market
September 2007
It's was something of a logical progression; the reels even almost look the same!
I'm now able to copy your old reel to reel audio tapes to CD, the same applies to more conventional audio cassettes and the price is a fixed cost of £3.00 per order with a further £6.00 per each tape.
I will not be able to offer this service for copyright material.
May 2007
Just a few updates. I have hopefully removed glitches that made some site pages slow to load. Otherwise I have added a few extra useful links on my FAQ pages  for all those dedicated people still shooting on the 'reel' stuff.

New Tape to DVD budget service

Following on from feedback from customers, we have brought in a budget service for people who have old VHS, Betamax or camcorder tapes, which they would like to view on their DVD player but are not too fussed about the ‘Bells and Whistles’ that come with our standard service.
Accordingly we have introduced a DVD budget service which is a straightforward copy of the original tape footage onto a DVD. There are no interactive menus and no artwork featuring stills from the footage. The service comprises a DVD complete with hard plastic case and the footage has chapters divided at 5 minutes intervals to let the viewer navigate.
By reducing the amount of post production work we are able to offer this services at a significantly lower cost than our standard service. For prices go to our Video to DVD page and use the VHS copying service prices.
